CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

TIPPY TOES (Ages 4-5)  This level begins with the development and enjoyment of music and movement as well as enforcing a positive image for each student.  This class is one hour in length and will be a combination of Ballet and Tap techniques.  Basic ballet and tap terms and steps will be introduced along with simple routines that will be performed in the spring recital.  The student will also be working on strengthening and coordination exercises that will assist in the development of the skills the dancer will need for the next level.

PRE-BALLET (Ages 5-7):  This level will be a continuation of skills in both Ballet and Tap.  This class is one hour in length.  There will be an introduction of more complex skills and the routines will also become more complex as their skills progress.  Students at this level will begin mastering the basic ballet skills needed to progress further into their dance education.

LEVEL 1 (Ages 7-9):  At this level, the dancer is expected to become more disciplined in their training.  New to this level will be an introduction to Jazz technique.  Also, this level will break down the dancer’s training into a 45 min. ballet class, while splitting the tap and jazz technique.  The dancer will continue to be introduced to more complex skills while still mastering the basics of all three of the techniques.

LEVEL 2 (Ages 9-12):  The dancer at this level will be expected to remain disciplined and self-dedicated to their training.  The dancer will be introduced to Ballet Conditioning, which is required at this level.  The ballet conditioning class will begin to condition and strengthen the dancers body for further development.  The dancer will continue to learn and master their technical skills through ballet, tap and jazz classes. At this level, the dancer’s technique classes are further broken down to a 45 min for each (ballet, tap and jazz) class.

LEVEL 3 (Ages 13+):  Dancers at this level are advanced in their training with the dancer focusing on pursuing a possible professional career in dance. Whether the student directs their attention to the possibilities of teaching, performing or college curriculum, they are expected to be extremely disciplined and self-dedicated to their training.  The dancer will be expected to not only train in the studio, but to also seek outside experiences to further enhance their training. (such opportunities will be set up through either the instructor or the studio) The dancer will be expected to take a 1 hour ballet class, a 1 hour ballet conditioning class, a 1 hour jazz class and a 45 min tap class.

CLASS ATTIRE:

Tippy Toes & Pre-Ballet:
Class Attire - The dancer is required to wear a black leotard and pink or white tights.  It is important that the dancer’s hair is securely pulled back into a ponytail or bun to avoid any distraction.  The child should not be wearing any jewelry, small post earrings are acceptable.  The child should not be wearing anything with a skirt or shorts attached as it becomes difficult to make sure the child=s positions are accurate.
Shoes - Pink ballet slippers and black tap shoes.  Please make sure that the shoe fits the child and is not sized to allow room for growth.  Too much or not enough room in a shoe can create discomfort for the dancer and also makes it hard for the teacher to view accurate development.  It is at the younger stages that a child’s foot should be developed properly to avoid future injury and misplacement.

Levels 1/2/3:
Class Attire - The dancer is required to wear a black leotard and pink or white tights.  It is important that the dancer’s hair is securely pulled back into a ponytail or bun to avoid any distraction.  The child should not be wearing any jewelry, small post earrings are acceptable.  At this level ballet skirts or tight fitting short dance shorts or bike shorts are allowed.
Shoes - Pink ballet slippers, black tap and jazz shoes (please see catalog).

SPRING RECITAL:
                - Students are not required to participate in the Recital; however, it is strongly recommended.
                - Initial Recital information packets will be handed out in late Fall and detailed packets in Winter.
                - Please be aware that you will be required to make a deposit on your recital costumes in late Fall.  We appreciate that at this time you let the instructor know whether or not your child will be participating in the recital to avoid confusion with choreography.  If you make a costume deposit with the intentions of participating in the spring recital, you are therefore responsible for the balance of the costume.  There are no refunds or cancellations for ordered costumes. This is a policy that exists with the costume companies.

PERFORMING COMPANY
The dance company is selected through audition and invitation only.  Speak with your instructor if you are interested.   Additional technique classes and choreography will be required.
