Gymnastics is the foundation of all sports, whether traditional or extreme. Athletes with a background in gymnastics naturally excel in all sports.
★ Strength is a basic requirement of all sports. Gymnastics is responsible for developing some of the strongest and most agile athletes in the world, both men and women.
★ Flexibility is extremely important in all sports, providing agility and an ability to prevent injuries. Every event in gymnastics hinges on excellence in flexibility. Athletes recognizing the benefits of a flexible body have a edge over the competition.
★ Spatial Awareness applies to all sports, including surfing, diving, soccer, football, skateboarding, snowboarding, and other classic and extreme sports. Body awareness in relation to its environment is crucial, and is the key to preventing injury.
★ Techniques forming the basics of gymnastics’ skills are found in every sport.
★ Form has an enormous emphasis in gymnastics. Perfect form is essential in any sport, it is required both for artistic presentation, but also for facilitating the perfect execution of the specific athletic skill. Perfection of form is vital to every sport.
★ Goal Setting and Achievement are at the heart of Gymnastics. Becoming a good gymnast teaches an athlete to set meaningful goals and to develop a plan of action for achieving those goals. When goals are not achieved, the athlete must learn how to modify the plan in order to continue progress. This process of goal setting, self-evaluation and behavior modification develops skills necessary for success not only in gymnastics but also in life.
